Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei (BANG) - The Sultan of Brunei has splashed out a whopping $21,000 on a haircut. The 63-year-old royal flew hairdresser Ken Modestou, who works at London's Dorchester Hotel in the exclusive Mayfair district, 7,000 miles so he could give him a trim.
The sultan even booked out a private suite on a Singapore Airlines flight so Ken - who usually charges $43 for a haircut - could travel in comfort, at a cost of $15,750.
It has also been suggested the area was hired to ensure Ken was kept separate from other passengers due to fears about swine flu.
Ken's colleague George Kadi reportedly said: "Ken has been cutting the hair of the sultan for 16 years."
"He goes regularly, sometimes every three or four weeks. The sultan flies him first-class at a cost of about $13,000. Everything is paid for, hotel, luxury food."
The sultan's fortune is estimated to stand at $17 billion.
